Born to a Riq'shite mother and Surlvhalian father, his family was torn apart by the political tensions arising from the war between the two nations. His mother fled with him in fear of their lives, leaving behind an elder brother. Many years were spent this way until destiny intervened. He and his mother were taken in by an Isalmian farmer and his family, as his mother was ill from contracting Breahs. The stability did not last long as mercenaries hired to take their life discovered them, setting fire to the home and murdering the family.

Unable to rescue his bedridden mother from the fire, Dusk refused to leave her side. She would have taken her life in order for him to flee, but he would not let her do so on her own. He was prepared to take his own life as well, but he fainted from the heat and smoke. He and Mila, a young Penumbra taken in by the farmer, were rescued by Rema Merloci returning from an exercise with trainees of Isalme army. With her his was given a new name, new life.

An intelligent young man that keeps to himself and those he is close to. Though long removed from the teachings of his mother, he holds onto fundamental beliefs of her people to keep her memory alive. He has little self-worth, greatly do to the psychological damage from his mother's death, not having the strength to save her. Though he greatly respects and accepts Rema as his surrogate mother, within the depths of his heart he resents her for rescuing him from death and living with hidden shame and guilt. Howbeit, he understands her and wishes to follow after steps to protect others by joining Isalme Army.

Growing up with Mila nearly half his life, Dusk holds her feelings and thoughts as close as his own in part to sharing the same painful experiences. He does keep her at a distance, not trusting himself enough to know the person he truly is inside. He cannot hide that form Miriam however, who seems to see through into his heart. Never quite sure what to make of her, he is weary of her when she asserts motherly tendencies. Lauro is like a little brother, annoying and pleasant at the same time, and looks to protect his future at whatever means.

Dusk's trust and loyalty is not easily won, but once so, it will not falter. He despises betrayal and cold towards those of indeterminable character. He recognizes the darkness allowed to fester within him, but sees it as an inevitable outcome of who he truly is. However, he is determined never to let it destroy the family he has come to have and takes their concerns and love to heart. If anyone would understand man's potential for both good and evil, it is he.
